Education as Resistance: The Palestinian Struggle for Knowledge and Liberation

Publication: Scene48 – ReelTalk Series

In this compelling video presentation, Dr. Nadia Naser-Najjab, Senior Lecturer in Palestine Studies at the University of Exeter, delves into the historical and ongoing challenges faced by Palestinian education under colonial and occupation regimes. She elucidates how educational institutions and access to knowledge have been systematically targeted—from the British Mandate period to the current Israeli occupation—as means to suppress resistance and erode Palestinian identity.

Dr. Naser-Najjab highlights the resilience and determination of Palestinians who view education not merely as a tool for personal advancement but as a form of resistance and a pathway to liberation. She discusses grassroots initiatives, such as those during the First Intifada, and contemporary efforts like the establishment of the Academic Action Network for Palestine, showcasing how education remains central to the Palestinian struggle for justice and self-determination.
